A critical investigation into spontaneous combustion in coal storage bunkers

SYNOPSIS Spontaneous combustion (SC) is a cold oxidation reaction that generates heat, causing temperature rise of the reactant and leading, with limited heat dissipation, to self-ignition reactant, which occurs without an external source. Although not coal, most significant hazard SC are fires occur in coal mining operations around world. These pose serious risk safety workers mines as well adverse effects on environment, can affect quality life for current future generations. We investigated occurrence raw storage bunkers purpose compiling decision analyser engineers designing or working bunkers. Specific experts were interviewed from different backgrounds companies, followed by field research at mine.
